Our Mission
To Educate and Prepare Girls for a Lifetime of Self-Respect and Healthy Living.
 
General Information
  • The programs run two times per year: Spring (March-May) and adding a Fall season (Sept-Nov) in 2008.
  • The program meets two times per week for 10 weeks for an hour and 15 minutes each class.
  • We will have, at least, 2 coaches at each site.
  • All of our coaches are provided with a very well developed, well-researched curriculum that has been used successfully by GOTR many times throughout the country.
 
Coaches
  • Genuine interest in leading a healthy life
  • Interest in physical fitness or running
  • Commitment to the mission of GOTR
  • Reliable, honest and positive outlook on life
  • Interest in the issues facing young women today
In addition to the wonderful experience of working with these girls, we also offer (through the kind assistance of New Balance, one of our corporate sponsors) each Head/Co-Coach free New Balance running shoes and discounts on New Balance running apparel. There is also a small monetary stipend for all Head Coaches who fulfill the above listed duties. Assistant coaches receive discount on NB shoes and running apparel.
 
Requirements for The Head/Co-Coach:
  • Become CPR/First Aid certified
  • Submit Child Abuse & Criminal Record clearances
  • Attend full day Coaches' Training
  • Attend pre-season Coaches' Meeting, plus three other meetings spaced throughout the season
  • Prepare for and supervise 20 - 1 hour and 15 minute long lessons in a manner consistent with the GOTR philosophy and curricula
  • Plan and coordinate the end of season banquet
  • Run with the girls in the 5K run/walk
 
Requirements for The Assistant Coach (or coaches):
  • Submit Child Abuse & Criminal Record clearances
  • Attends each lesson
  • Assist the girls, offering encouragement, participating in games and workouts
  • Generally the cheerleader for the team.
  • They may also choose to attend the scheduled meetings and other events.

Team Tiara is the charity running leg of Girls on the Run (GOTR). We are a team of athletes who pursue individual goals, such as running a marathon, to raise money for local GOTR chapters and our important after school running programs for young girls.
